Xiaomi has finally announced the Xiaomi Redmi 8 smartphone in India and soon the handset will be hitting the Nigeria market at an affordable price. The phone is priced at Rs. 8,999 (~$126).
The handset supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen is also protected by a corning gorilla glass 5. It’s built with plastic on the back and Aura Mirror design with a glossy appeal which has P2i nano-coating that protects it from water splashes.
The phone is based on Android 9 with MIUI 10. The Redmi 8 is powered by Snapdragon 439 SOC with 4GB RAM and internal storage of 64GB. There’s also a dedicated slot for a micro SD card. It has a massive nonremovable battery capacity of 5000 mAh just like the Infinix Hot 8 smartphone.
The battery on the inside has 18W fast charging through USB-C port. The box pack only comes with a 10W charger. The Redmi 8 has a dual-camera set-up that consists of 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4micron pixel size, and Dual Pixel autofocus.
There is an additional 2-megapixel sensor for adding depth effects to the images. The dual camera features AI scene detection across 33 categories and language translation through Google Lens. The selfies snapper on the phone is an AI 8-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone has support for Face Unlock.
The panel house a fingerprint scanner which is not available on the Redmi 8A. Other features on the handset include a 3.5mm audio jack, wireless FM radio, IR blaster, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS.
Xiaomi Redmi 8 Price and Availability in Nigeria
The Xiaomi Redmi 8 was announced in Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, and Onyx Black. However, the official website of Xiaomi states that the Emerald Green is the fourth color variant of the smartphone.
The GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage models of the smartphone are respectively priced at 40,500 Naira ($112) and 46,000 Naira ($126).
